Spotlight: Brice Gramm
We'd like to introduce you to Brice Gramm, our Chief of Operations. He keeps the numbers in check and the future in sight. And he's OK at ping pong. Now shake hands and play nice.Name: Brice GrammNickname: B-rice; Bricee; BGHometown: Born in Bitburg, Germany; Raised in Niceville, FL (I promise it's real, there's even a Chik-Fil-A and a WalMart)Playlist link: PlatitudesWhat do you do here?
As the Chief of Operations, I serve a pretty diverse strategic and tactical function for both PRPL and our clients. Depending on who you ask, I might be the "big picture" creative thinker and digital strategist, the proposal deck writer and pitch person, the legal adviser and contract negotiator, the financial pulse-keeper and spreadsheet wizard, or the business guy and opportunity creator.
I also like to think I'm a would-be office ping pong champ. It should be noted that I beat our most recent tournament champ in our last two matches. Just sayin'.
Was there any inspiration for your playlist?
Just a handful of my favorites. I'd throw in some Tchaikovsky or Bach if it didn't totally mess up the vibes.
Choose one condiment forever.
This is a tough one. Is this like one of those, "going to an island and you can only bring one thing with you" kind of questions? If I'm on an island, it's gotta be black pepper because I can get saltiness from the sea water... and probably die of dehydration. What was the question again?
What are your hidden talents?
Let's see... whistling? No, that's not interesting. I'd say I am definitely a marginal bowler (I think I got a 200 once). I'm not too bad in a first-person shooter game every once and awhile. Oh, and I'm pretty boss at Apples-to-Apples.
Britney or Xtina?
Don't you know that you're toxic?
Any books you’d recommend for someone in your professional field?
There's a really great book out recently from the guys over at Razorfish called Converge. That one is definitely worth a read, and I think speaks a lot to my perspectives on technology, creativity, business and marketing strategy.
I would also check out Gary Vaynerchuk's books. He's a great and energetic entrepreneur who's amazing at monetizing social and mobile user engagement with commerce. Big things on the horizon in this space if you can position your brand there in the right way. That's why I think Crush It! and The Thank You Economy are must-reads.
Where did you get your smarts?
I have been fortunate to be surrounded by immensely intelligent and talented people my whole life, starting with my parents. They instilled me with a deeply-rooted curiosity about anything and everything, which has curated an openness to new experiences and cultivated an insistence to always understand "why" something is the way that it is and challenge conventions.
Pair all of that with an immense amount of hustle and ambition and a never-complacent mentality, and I suppose you get the eclectic mix of weekend rock star, entrepreneurial spirit, and technology enthusiast that I have become.
What animal language would you like to speak?
I'd love to drop in on a dolphin conversation. Are they solving the latest sea economic crisis or is it all purely pod gossip?
The 6th grade…have you recovered?
What? You mean from the front spikewall hairdo and the pucca shell necklace? Hey, at least I was "cool" enough not to join the math team at my teacher's request. Should I be telling you this? Okay, recovery from 6th took a couple years, but I was a chick magnet by 8th and an irresistible rock band frontman by 9th, most creative guy superlative by senior yearbook. Does any of that make up for the pudginess and awkward PacSun style? Maybe I didn't ever recover, after all...
What’s your favorite part about working at PRPL?
The people, their individual passions, and the level of talent and ambition around me every single day. The team is everything, and at PRPL you can be who you are and it's really set up to be a great environment to share with the people around you. Thanks, Brice. We love you too.
