Social Slam Dunks
Last night, the Spurs took home the championship, but the NBA is giving out gold stars to players who've posted up in the social paint. For the third straight year, the fan-voted Social Media Awards will be appointed in recognition of players who've posted the funniest tweets, best selfies, and most viral Vines of the year, among other categories. Who will you be voting for?
Twitter COO Steps Down
This past week, Twitter's chief operating officer left after presiding over a failed effort to attract new users and boost engagement with existing users. Ali Rowghani tweeted his goodbye saying, “Goodbye Twitter. It’s been an amazing ride, and I will cherish the memories.” As of now, the social network has no plans to replace him, but let the resume flood begin.
Uber Successful
Uber is on the rise, as we've seen here with its expansion into Orlando. The mobile app that connects users with drives has skyrocketed to a $18 billion valuation, and continues to grow. In this interview with Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, he talks about a recent trend he's seen with users saving money by selling their car and using the car service.
Google My Business
Setting up business pages, profiles, listings and more on Google can get pretty convoluted. Thankfully, the search titan just introduced a snazzy new tool called Google My Business designed to help storefronts, businesses, and even non-local brands register themselves with Google's suite of biz-related features like Google+ and Google Maps listings. The tool holds your hand through the profile creation process, and provides a dashboard for the Busy Barbaras managing multiple listings.
